Abstract (EN)
The aim of the study, the problem statement of which is; "Usability of Essential Oil Extracted Plant Pulp in Screen Printing in the Context of Sustainability", is determined as developing a technique with the help of screen printing in order to apply natural printing processes, which are currently carried out with traditional methods, in an industrial dimension. It is envisaged that it will be possible to use natural dyes in industrial scale by transferring the natural dyes obtained from dried plant pulps with the screen printing technique to the textile surface and providing sufficient fastness. In this study, in addition to presenting screen printing as an alternative to traditional fabric printing techniques, it is aimed to make positive contributions to sustainability with the use of natural dyes obtained from plant pulps. This increases the importance of the study. There are different classifications of research approaches. These can be classified as "basic and applied" in terms of philosophy and "quantitative, qualitative and mixed" in terms of methodology. Quantitative method uses numerical data, qualitative method uses verbal data, and mixed method uses both numerical and verbal data (Alkan et al., 2019). Applied research aims to solve an existing problem, to make a situation better and to improve it. The researcher is oriented towards a specific purpose in problem solving. In this type of research, problems are actually solved (Karasar, 2014). In research-development type research, the aim is to create products that can be used in solving the problem (Bedük, 2012). Philosophically, this research adopted a "both basic and applied" approach. In terms of methodology; "descriptive research method among quantitative research methods" was used. The descriptive method aims to reveal the current status of the problem to be researched (Sönmez & Alacapınar, 2011). In this context, first of all, the necessary literature review was conducted for the study. In line with the data obtained, essential oil plant extracts were obtained from the relevant facilities, fabrics were subjected to purification and mordanting processes, dye preparation processes were carried out and dyes were made suitable for screen printing, pattern designs were made and screen printing processes were carried out. Finally, printing molds were prepared, cellulose and protein-based fabrics were printed and the necessary fastness tests were carried out in the laboratory environment (Tirebolu IL-CA Herbal Products R&D Production Facilities). The study can be summarized as follows in terms of process and purpose: - To be able to use natural dyes obtained from essential oil extracted plant pulps in screen printing technique - To bring the fastness values of natural dyes transferred to a surface with screen printing technique to a sufficient level - To be able to use natural dyes on an industrial scale through screen printing technique, - To make positive contributions to sustainability by using natural dyes on an industrial scale in the textile sector In addition to all these, in addition to the emulsion printing technique applied as standard in screen printing technique, the emulsion-free printing technique discovered experimentally within the scope of this study is described in detail in the relevant sections of the study.
