Abstract (EN)

The aim of our study is to shed light on our clinical practice by evaluating the clinical characteristics of patients who had a CMV colitis attack at a certain period of their disease after being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, the treatment they received during the attack, and whether there was a progress to colectomy or malignancy in the following follow-ups. In the study, demographic and comorbidity conditions, laboratory results, clinical conditions according to Truelowe - Witts scoring, which immunosuppressive treatments were used for the diagnosis of colitis, which immunosuppressive treatments were used in CMV. In this study, it was evaluated retrospectively whether it increased colitis attack, inflammatory marker levels, tissue CMV-DNA biopsy levels, whether or not they received antiviral treatment during the attack, whether there was a progression to colectomy or malignancy in the follow-up processes. In our study, 4 of 46 patients were excluded from the study because their tissue CMV-DNA biopsy level was below 250. 28 of the remaining 42 patients received antiviral treatment during the CMV colitis attack period, while 14 did not receive antiviral treatment. It was observed that their clinical condition was mild after antiviral treatment was given. There was no correlation between the levels of inflammatory markers such as sedimentation, crp, calprotectin and tissue CMV-DNA biopsy levels. This does not support the condition that high tissue CMV-DNA level should receive antiviral treatment. When drug status and tissue CMV-DNA biopsy levels were compared between those who took and those who did not take antiviral treatment, there was no statistically significant difference. It has been shown that the clinical status and crp level of these patients can be determined, and it is thought that our study will contribute to the literature in this direction.
