Abstract (EN)

Objectives: Quality of life is important to patients with chronic illnesses such as ulcerative colitis. The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between the disease activity and quality of life in patients. Materials and Methods: In this study, we include the patients who applied Manisa Celal Bayar University Faculty of Medicine Gastroenterlogy Department Polyclinic with the diagnosis of ulcerative colitis. We questioned each patient for demographic characteristics such as age, gender. We also questioned for tobacco or alcohol use and chronic comorbid diseases. Quality of Life is evaluated by using the Short Form-36. We used MAYO score to describe the disease activity. Results: As a result of our study, a negative correlation was found between the MAYO score and SF-36 parameters, and the findings were statistically significant. Conclusion: Based on these findings, it was determined that disease activity and quality of life are closely related and the higher the disease activity, the lower the quality of life in patients with a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis.
