Abstract (EN)
Aim: Determining the intravascular volume situation is very important for the patients admitted to the emergency department. We, here in our study, intended to present vena cava inferior diameter as an instructive method in determination of the relationship between the inferior vena cava diameter tested as non-invasive with the help of ultrasonography device and central venous pressure, and in determination of volume situation of the patient.Material and Method: Our study was applied on 45 patients over 18 years, who were operated subclavian vein or internal jugular vein central venous catheterization in academic emergency service, between January 2011 ? September 2011. Inferior vena cava diameter was measured both in expiration and inspiration phases with ultrasonography device and recorded in millimeter. Central venous pressure was observed on monitor and recorded as mmHg.Findings: 24 (53.3%) of the patients were male and 21 (46.7%) were female. The age average was calculated as 58,3±17,43 years. It has been confirmed that there is a meaningful relationship between the vena cava inferior diameter measured with ultrasonography in expirium and central venous pressure scaled in expirium in patients with spontaneous breathing. It is confirmed that there is no significant relationship between the vena cava inferior diameter measured with ultrasonography and central venous pressure scaled in expirium in patients breathing with mechanical ventilator in expirium.Conclusion: It has been found that vena cava inferior diameter measured with ultrasonography in expirium in patients with spontaneous breathing may be benefitted for the determination of volume situation.
