An overview of number sense research published in international journals: A bibliometric analysis

Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to conduct a bibliometric analysis of the articles on the subject of "Number Sense". The data were downloaded from the Web of Science (WoS) database by searching with the keyword "number sense". The research was limited to the years 2006-2024 and English language articles. As a result of the search, 910 publications that met the research criteria were included in the study and analyzed with VoSviever program. According to the research findings, it was determined that the studies on the subject of "number sense" increased over the years and the most articles were published in 2020. It was determined that the articles were distributed in 63 categories in many different fields, but the most interest was in the field of education and psychology. Of the 2060 authors mentioned as authors in the publications, Ben Clarke was the author with the highest number of articles with 29 publications, and Justin Halberda was the author with the highest number of citations with 2492 citations. In the analyses made according to the number of citations, a total of 58 countries where the publications were conducted were determined, and the countries with the highest number of citations were determined to be the United States of America and Italy. A total of 765 institutions were identified, with Johns Hopkins University and the University of Padua being the institutions with the highest number of citations. When the number of citations according to the sources of the publications was analyzed; 308 sources were identified, and the journals with the highest number of citations were Journal of Experimental Child Psychology and Cognition. When the subject trends in the field were analyzed according to the keywords used by the authors; 1898 keywords were identified, and it was determined that "number sense", "mathematics" and "numerical cognition" were the most frequently repeated keywords.
