Seafarer's working time within international and European Union Maritime Labour Law

Abstract (EN)

Working time falls within the Eurpean Union?s social policy, International Labour Organization and also Turkish Labour Law goals of improving the living and working conditions of workers.The first legal instruments concerning working time are in International Labour Law agreements.The European Union legal instruments concerning working time are also similar with International Labour Law agreements. The basic instrument concerning organization of working time is Council Directive 2003/88. This Directive shall not apply to seafarers, mobil workers in civil aviation, mobile road transport workers and railway transport workers.The objective of organization of working time is to guarantee the protection of the safety and health of workers.
