The role of translation in international media organs: A holistic analysis

The rapidly developing technology manifests itself in terms of news acquisition and news transmission. Technological developments have led to the loss of the concept of time and space in the exchange of information and thus to globalization. This means being instantly informed about all parts of the world. News agencies and international media organs are effective in obtaining information at the international level. The news sources created by the news agencies and presented to media organizations are subject to translation before they reach the news consumers. These news can be exposed to a number of factors during translation and come across in different shapes and contents. In order to understand the translation process and role in international media organs, a historical look at the concept of media was taken first. Then, the international media organs planned to be interviewed were introduced, and information about news production policies was obtained. Then, a three-stage study was carried out by adopting a holistic approach, including qualitative and quantitative research methods. In the first stage, media/ communication theories and approaches, which have an important place in the field of news, and translation studies theories and approaches were compared. In the second stage, interviews were conducted with international media organs, where the semi-structured interview technique was applied. In addition, a survey study was conducted with Y and Z generation news consumers who were educated in the field of translation, continue to receive translation education and work in universities where translation education is provided. The results of the questionnaires and interviews were analyzed with the SPSS program. In the third stage, Karabakh news was evaluated with a descriptive analysis using the data and inferences obtained in the first and second stages. As a result, it has been seen that the news translation process in international media organs proceeds differently from the translation process known in general, and there are some differences in itself. In the field of news translations, some deficiencies have been identified in both the awareness of international news consumers and the definition of the translator's duty. These deficiencies cause problems in defining the product, especially the process that operates differently in international media organs. For this reason, in this study, the missing aspects related to these points were tried to be addressed, and suggestions were made for news translation studies.
