Abstract (EN)
Aim: To evaluate the validity and reliability of Hope Center Ostomy Quality of Life Scale ? Ostomy (COHQOL-O) for Turkish community.Methodology It is a methodological study. The participants were 153 colostomy, ileostomy, and urostomy person for at least a month in two university hospitals between May and September 2010. The consent of ethics committee, scale developer, related institutions and persons were taken. Data were collected by means of City of Hope Quality of Life Ostomy -COHQOL-O. It was revised for individual with ostomy and transformed into a 43-item scale by Grant et al (2003). The scoring is performed on the basis of a 10-point Likert scale. Results: Back-translation was used in order the check the linguistic validity of the scale (KGI=.90, p=.00) and the expert opinions were found to compatible with each other. The internal consistency coefficient of the Turkish version of City of Hope Quality of Life Ostomy (COHQOL-O TR) is .92; the correlation coefficients of subdimension item scores and subdimension total scores range between .21 and .79. The scale's model agreement indices were found to be ?2 (854, N=153)=1764.57, RMSEA=.076, GFI=.67, CFI=.88 and NNFI=.88 as a result of the confirmatory factor analysis. The correlation of the scale?s total score was found to be .82 as a result of test-retest reliability. Conclusion and Recommendations: The validity and reliability of COHQOL-O(TR) scale has been determined for evaluating the individuals with ostomy quailty of life. It is recommended that nurses determine in what ways individual with ostomy?s quality of life is affected and use this valid and reliable scale towards increasing nursing interventions on the affected areas.Key words: Ostomy, Quality of Life, Reliability, Validity, COHQOL-O, COHQOL-O(TR)
