Relationship between organizational stress and hopelessness: Application on 4-5 star hotel workers

Abstract (EN)

This study/research aims to investigate the relationship between organizational stress and hopelessness among the employees of the 4-5-star hotels in terms of various variables. Beck's Hopelessness Scale, Coping Styles with Stress Scale and personal information form developed by the researcher/author were used as data collection tools. Personal information form includes questions regarding the gender, birth year, marital status, education status and position status at work of employees. The study was conducted with a total of 557 hotel employees 185 and 372 of whom are female and males, respectively. IBM SPSS Statistics 22 (IBM SPSS, Turkey) program was used for data analysis. Shapiro Wilks test was applied for testing the normality of data and according to the test data was determined as normal. According to the research results, it is observed that there is a significant relationship between the hopelessness level and stress coping styles among the employees. Organizational stress level increased in accordance with the hopelessness level of employees and stress coping styles varied accordingly. A significant relation among the hopelessness and stress level of employees and their birth year, marital status, gender, education status and position status at work was determined.
