This study mainly is an attempt to highlight the pedagogical potential of EFL/ESL websites so as to supplement basic level receptive skills programme at tertiary level preparatory classrooms. In the era of Information and Communication Technology, the widespread accessibility to the Internet, and the World Wide Web have created an alternative virtual learning environment where people connect, communicate, share information and moreover create their own content globally. As new generation, digital natives, EFL/ESL learners are already actively involved in this web-based platform where the common language used by Internet users worldwide is English, and which is the language they are willing to learn by all means. In this respect, besides the advanced communication tools integrated in them, as ready-to-use, access free educational resources available on the World Wide Web, EFL/ESL websites could both motivate learners and offer a content-rich, web-assisted language learning medium so as to enhance and empower conventional face-to-face language learning practices of EFL/ESL learners. Highly interactive materials provided on these resources by virtue of the advanced hypermedia capability of the web combining text, audio, video, and animation offer a contextualized learning environment which is conducive to major language skills improvement, namely receptive and productive skills along with sub-skills such as grammar and lexical knowledge. Moreover, Web-assisted language learning medium provided by employing these websites also fosters self-directed learning, and promotes learner autonomy since these websites are designed for self-study purposes. Whereas, exponentially growing number of these websites cause a challenge for learners to locate the ones suitable for their learning needs and preferences. Hence, providing students a selection of these websites beforehand will prevent any confusion and facilitate online language study. Therefore, the specific aim of this study is to provide a database of selected EFL/ESL websites compiled and made accessible on a single webpage (http://www.funandeasyefl.com) so as to form a basis for extending and empowering FTF learning practices of the basic level preparatory students in the context of this study. Consequently, EFL/ESL websites provide a supplementary medium of learning to help them achieve a required level of English proficiency at the tertiary level preparatory programme. However, the scope of this study is limited to utilization of EFL/ESL websites to supplement basic level receptive skills programme in FTF classroom practices in a particular higher education context.Key words: Information and Communications Technology, The Internet, The World Wide Web, Web-Assisted Language Learning, EFL/ESL Websites, Receptive Skills.
