Universal desing in universities campuses: Example of Çankırı Karatekin University Uluyazı Campus

The aim of this thesis is to emphasize the necessity of equal participation of disabled students and other disabled campus users in social, cultural, professional, and educational aspects of communal life, as well as ensuring equal access to information and communication tools, to determine equal use and barrier-free access opportunities for all users within the scope of the standards and universal design principles that should be applied in public outdoor design and within the scope of Design for All by revealing the problems faced by all disabled individuals in Çankırı Karatekin University (CAKU) Uluyazı Campus and by identifying open, semi-open and closed public spaces with intensive extracurricular use in the research area, which has an important role in raising young individuals of the future generation, and to develop recommendations for the discipline of landscape architecture. Within the scope of the study, data related to the research area has been collected in line with the purpose of the research, the problems faced by all disabled individuals in the campus area have been revealed, the compliance of the determined spaces and uses with the standards and universal design principles that should be applied in public outdoor design has been examined, and various solutions have been developed for inappropriate uses. In addition, three-dimensional project visuals were created after a pilot area within the Uluyazı campus, which poses a problem especially for disabled individuals, was determined and the proposed landscape design project was prepared.
