Abstract (EN)

Parental Acceptance-Rejection Theory (PARTheory) developed by Rohner (1966); it is a socialization theory that explains and predicts how parental acceptance or rejection in childhood affects the child's psychological development and adulthood. Perfectionism is defined as the tendency to set hard to reach goals for oneself and others (Hill ve ark., 1997, s.81). Recent studies have shown the importance of the role of the family in developing perfectionist behavioral characteristics. According to parental acceptance rejection theory; it is assumed that children perceived as rejected or rejected by their parents will attempt to gain their approval and acceptance to a certain point. This need for acceptance and approval of children can lead to the belief that their personality should be perfect. They believed that, but if they show excellent personality traits, their parents will be able to accept them and build positive relationships. Based on this assumption this study, perceived parental acceptance rejection and perfectionism levels were examined in terms of age, gender, faculty and number of siblings. The research was carried out with 363 students who were selected through stratified sampling among the students who are studying at Ege University in 2018-2019 academic year. Parental Acceptance-Rejection / Control Scale (mother and father form), Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale and Personal Information Form were used as data collection tools. SPSS-22 (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) program was used for statistical analysis of the data obtained in the study. First of all, the normality analysis of the data was conducted and when it was found that there was no normal distribution, the nonparametric tests, Spierman Correlation analysis, Mann Whitney U-Test and Kruskal Wallis H Test were used according to the data's suitability. According to the results, a significant positive relationship was found in the self- oriented perfectionism and father indifference / neglect sub-dimension and in the other-oriented perfectionism and mother indefference / neglect sub-dimension. While socially perceived perfectionism was positively correlated with parental indifference / neglect, hostility / aggression, undifferentiated rejection and control sub-dimensions, negative correlation was found in mother and father warmth / compassion sub-dimension. Significant differences were found between parental acceptance-rejection / control dimensions and gender, age and number of siblings, while a significant difference was found between excellence levels and gender alone.
