A study of childhood trauma symptoms, self-esteem and dysfunctional attitudes of university students

The aim of this study is to examine university students' childhood trauma symptoms, self-esteem, and dysfunctional attitudes. The sample of the study consists of 365 university students between the ages of 18-21. Sociodemographic information form, Childhood Mental Trauma Scale (CTQ-28), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) and Dysfunctional Attitudes Scale (DAS-A) were used as data collection tools in the study. As a result of the analysis, a significant difference was found according to gender in the dysfunctional attitude scores of the participants. There is a significant difference in scores of childhood mental trauma symptoms and the self-esteem scores according to the income level. A significant difference was found in scores of childhood trauma symptoms according to the order of birth. There is a significant and negative correlation between childhood traumas and self-esteem levels, and childhood trauma scores negatively predict the self-esteem level. A significant positive correlation was found between childhood trauma scores and dysfunctional attitudes, and childhood traumas positively predict dysfunctional attitudes.
