Examination of the relationship between childhood trauma and cognitive emotion regulation, anxiety and life satisfaction in university students

Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to reveal the relationship between childhood traumas, cognitive emotion regulation, anxiety and life satisfaction variables in university students. The research was conducted with the relational survey model, which is included in the quantitative research design, and the survey method was used to collect the data. The sample of the study consists of a total of 402 university students, 299 women and 103 men, between the ages of 18-25, living in the provinces of Istanbul, Ankara, Samsun and Izmir. 'Demographic Information Form', 'Beck Anxiety Scale', 'Childhood Mental Trauma Scale', 'Satisfaction with Life Scale' and 'Cognitive Emotion Regulation Scale' were used to collect data. Statistical program for social sciences SPSS-22 was used in the analysis of the data. Pearson Correlation analysis was used to reveal the relationship between university students' childhood traumas, cognitive emotion regulation strategies, anxiety and life satisfaction levels, and the strength and direction of the relationship between variables was revealed. At the same time, simple and multiple regression analysis analyzes were used to reveal the predictive levels between variables. T test analyzis was used in the comparison finding groups. When the research findings are examined, there is a positive relationship between childhood traumas and anxiety; A significant negative correlation was found with life satisfaction. There was also a significant negative correlation between anxiety and life satisfaction. Finally, a significant relationship was found between childhood traumas, anxiety and life satisfaction and cognitive emotion regulation strategies sub-dimensions. As a result, as childhood traumas increase in university students, their anxiety levels increase and their life satisfaction decreases. Likewise, as anxiety increases, life satisfaction decreases in university students.
