The relationship between irrational beliefs and sense of individual coherence and sense of Family coherence in University students

This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between irrational beliefs and individual sense of coherence and sense of family coherence in university students. In this study, 'Sociodemographic Data Form', 'Irrational Beliefs Scale', 'Family Sense of Coherence Scale' and 'Sense of Coherence Scale' were used as data collection instruments. The sample population of the study consists of 291 students studying at the Faculty of Health Sciences of Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University between 20 October 2019 and 18 November 2019. Irrational beliefs of students by gender shows a significant difference and the irrational beliefs of students of women are more than male. (u=-4870,0;p<.05). According to gender to family sense of coherence scale (u=6255,0;p>.05.) and individual sense of coherence scale (u=6034,5;p>.05) so it is not found significant difference. There is negative moderate level of relation between scale of ''Irrational beliefs '' and ''Individual sense of coherence '' (r=-,437;p<.01). And there is negative moderate level of relation between scale of ''Irrational beliefs '' and ''Sense of family coherence ''(r=-,449; p<.01). There is positive moderate level of relation between scale of ''Sense of family coherence '' and ''Individual sense of coherence '' (r=,425;p<.01). The research contributes to the relational structure between the "sense of coherence" and "irrational thoughts" to improve positive mental health used in the field of health promotion in the literature. Uncovering the conceptual relationship can offer a holistic approach in terms of positive health assessments and interventions. From the research, public health nurses are expected to contribute to the literature to evaluate irrational beliefs and sense of coherence in young people and to present ideas for new research.
