Examining fatalism of tendency and interpersonal competence of university students

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between university students' fatalism tendency and interpersonal competencies. Study group consisted of 653 students from Sakarya University Education Faculty. In the study, Personal Information Form, Fatalism Tendency Scale and Interpersonal Competence Scale Adult Form were used. This study was conducted using relational scanning method. The data were analyzed with data analysis program and statistical techniques suitable for social sciences. Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro Wilk normality tests were applied in order to determine whether the data obtained correspond to the normal distribution. One-Way ANOVA test was used for normally distributed data, Mann Whitney U Test, Kruskal Wallis Test, Spearman Sequence Difference Correlation (R) Tests were used for non-normally distributed data. As a result of the analyzes, it was found that there was a negative and medium level statistically significant relationship between the personal control sub-dimension of the fatalism tendency scale and the total scores of the interpersonal competence scale. It was found that there was a negative and medium level statistically significant relationship between the personal control sub-dimension of the fatalism tendency scale and demonstrating the power sub-dimension and providing emotional support sub-dimension of the interpersonal competence scale. Significant relationships were found between the fatalism tendency and sub-dimensions of fatalism tendency and gender, grade level, education department and preferred music genre. No significant relationship was found between the fatalism tendency and the type of family raised. The findings were discussed within the framework of the literature.
