Abstract (EN)

Introduction and Objective: The objective of this study is to determine the individual and familial functionality in first class students and its effect on depression-anxiety risk. Material and Method: Our study was made on 383 volunteering participants with sampling among first class students. (197 female and 186 male, average age 19.8±1.7) Social functionality of the participants was determined with social atom scale, family functionality apgar scale, depression mood Beck depression scale (BDS) and anxiety mood Beck anxiety scale (BAS). Findings: 51.4% of our participants were female and 48.6% were male. Average BDS scale was 13.5±8.0. According to BDS, 72.6% had normal and 27.4% had depressive mood. According to BAS, 35.8% had a low, 21.9% had average and 15.7% had severe level of anxiety. It was stated that depressive mood was observed significantly more in females, shattered families and individuals with low familial functionality (p<0.05, p<0.05, p<0.001 in order). A significant relation couldn't be detected between social atom scores and depression mood. There was a significant relation between social atom mean parent scores and depression mood. (p<0.05 and p<0.01 in order) Anxiety was observed more in females. (p<0.01) Mean social general total score decreased as the anxiety levels increased. (p<0.05) Result: It is considered that depression and anxiety mood prevalence in university students can be decreased by increasing familial and individual functionality. The greatest responsibility of primary care physicians is to make approaches to increase both personal and familial functionality. Keywords: Social atom, family APGAR, anxiety, depression
