Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to investigate the mediating role of coping with stress in the relationship between resilience and cognitive awareness in university students by using the descriptive and correlational type of research design. A total of 982 university students, 711 (72.4%) women and 271 (27.6%) men, were included in the study. During the data collection process, data were obtained through in person survey study between 15th-30th October 2021 by using the "Descriptive information form", "Risk Factors Determination List", "Short Resilience Scale", "Cognitive Awareness Scale" and "Stress Coping Styles Scale". In the statistical evaluation of the data obtained in the research, the IBM SPSS v22 program was used in descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation analysis, and the AMOS program was used in the structural equation modeling. As a result of the research, students' cognitive awareness and problem-oriented coping are positive. On the other hand, a negative effect was found on the styles of coping with emotional stress. It has been found that psychological resilience has a positive effect on problem-oriented coping, which is one of the ways of coping with stress, and a negative direct effect on coping with emotions. In addition, it was concluded that the hypothesis about the mediating role of coping with stress in the relationship between resilience and cognitive awareness is correct. Regarding these results, it is important to improve the curriculum to increase the psychological resilience and cognitive awareness of university students.
