Research on the relation between loneliness and automatical thoughts of university students related with psycholosocial variables

In this study, the correlation between the loneliness levels of university students and their automatical thoughts are analyzed in regard to some social-demographical variables (gender, age, socio-economical situations?etc). This study aims to find whether there is a correlation between the loneliness levels of university students and automatical thoughts and whether loneliness and automatical thoughts have differed significantly (p<,05/p< ,01) in regard to some social demographical variables. Studied in accordance with the relational screening model, the target population consists of university students who are getting and not getting psycological support in Izmir. In the study, 150 university students who applied to the place in which the researcher has been working called Private Noron Psychiatry Department Center located in Izmir within a year from the date of December, 2011 and 150 university students studying in Dokuz Eylul University Buca Faculty of Education who are getting and not getting psychological support have been reached. The sample group of this study was determined through unrandom sampling random-oriented sample method. As a data collection tool in this study; UCLA Loneliness Scale to evaluate the loneliness levels of students and Automatical Thoughts Scale to evaluate their automatical thoughts have been used. In order to determine the demographical characteristics, Personal Information Questionnaire formed by the researcher has been used. Consequently, as a result of all literature review and applications, all acquired data have been evaluated through SPSS statistical package programme and the results have been analyzed via Pearson Product-moment Correlation Coefficient method, t-test and analysis of variance. As a result of this study, it has been achieved that marital status, marital status of parents, economical conditions, psycological support and manners of parents have differed the loneliness levels of students significantly. It has been also determined that automatical thoughts have differed according to age, marital status of parents, housing options, psycological support and manners of parents.
