Psychological resilience and post-traumatic stress as predictors of post-traumatic growth in university students

In this study, the predictor effects of psychological resilience and post-traumatic stress symptom levels on post-traumatic growth in university students who have experienced trauma were examined. The study group consisted of 440 volunteer university students, 309 (70.2%) female and 131 (29.8%) male, studying at the Faculty of Education, Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University in the 2022-2023 academic year. Demographic Information Form, Post-Traumatic Stress Diagnostic Scale, Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory and The Brief Resilience Scale were used as data collection tools in the research. Pearson Product Moment Correlation, Multiple Regression Analysis and Independent Group t Test were used in the statistical analysis of the data obtained in the study. According to research findings, it was found that there was a significant relationship that was positively low level between post traumatic growth and post traumatic stress; a significant relationship that was positively low level between post-traumatic growth and psychological resilience level; a significant relationship that was negatively low level between post-traumatic stress and resilience. Resilience and post-traumatic stress were found to be significant predictors of post-traumatic growth. It was determined that the highest effect on post-traumatic growth belonged to post-traumatic stress. In addition, it was found that there was no significant difference in the post-traumatic growth of the participants according to gender and type of trauma.
