Effects of university students' disaster risk perceptions ontheir hopelessness level

In the study conducted to examine the effects of disaster risk perceptions of university students on the level of hopelessness, the relational screening model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used. The study was conducted with 365 female and 144 male students at Malatya Turgut Ozal University using one-on-one interviews and Google Forms. The data collection tool of the study included a personal information form prepared to determine the sociodemographic characteristics of the participants, the University Students Disaster Risk Perception Scale and the Beck Hopelessness Scale. SPSS data analysis program was used to analyze the research data. Confirmatory and exploratory factor analysis was conducted on the research data. As a result of the study, a significant and positive relationship was found between exposure, anxiety, the effect variable and anxiety levels, unmanageability, and the effect and exposure variables and anxiety, hopelessness. Anxiety was found to be a critical mediator variable in the relationship between exposure, effect, unmanageability and hopelessness. KEYWORDS: Disaster, Risk, Perception, Hopelessness
