Investigation of the relationship between attachment styles with humor styles of university students

Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to investigate whether there is a meaningful relationship between attachment styles and the humor styles used among the university students. The sample group of the study consisted of 196 university students who were determined voluntarily. Humor styles used by the students, were analized both in terms of sociodemographic variables such as gender, age, faculty, and also in terms of the attachment styles and subdimensions of attachment styles. Besides, the relationship between attachment styles and sociodemographic variables has also been examined. Personal Information Form, Questionnaire of Relationship Scales and Scale of Humor Styles were used as data collection tools in the study. Results of this study showed that using levels of afialitive, self enhanced, self defeating humour styles increased as the levels of secure attachment increased. While there is a significiantly positive relationship between indifferent attachment style and negative humor styles, there is a significantly negative relationship between apprehensive attachment styles and positive humor styles. While university students with an obsessive attachment style have negative relationships with positive humor styles, they have positive relationships with negative humor styles. It has been determined that the attachment styles of university students do not differ according to their gender, age, faculty, place of childhood, income level of their families and number of siblings. On the contrary, humor styles used Whereas, there was no significiant difference in the used humor styles, by means of place of childhood, number of siblings, income levels of their families, and the faculty. These results were discussed in the light of the related literature.
