The investigation of the relationship between attachment styles of the university students and the levels of forgiveness

In this research, it is aimed to examine the relationship between attachment styles of the university students and the levels of forgiveness. Relational Screening Method has been used in this study. The sample group of the research has comprised of 602 students, 236 males (%39) and 366 females (%61), studying at Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University Faculty of Education in 2016-2017 academic year. These students have been chosen with the method of cluster sampling. The average age of the patients is 22. In this study, Relationship Scales Questionnaire and The Heartland Forgiveness Scale have been used as data collection tools. Additionally, Personal Information Form has been used in order to evaluate the socio-demographic characteristics of the participants such as level of family income, the number of siblings, mother and father education status, the level of academic achievement. The data analysis has been made by means of Simple Correlation Analysis, Regression Analysis, One Way ANOVA, The Multiple Comparison Tests (LSD). According to the results obtained from the research, there has been a positive significant correlation between total forgiveness point and sub-dimensions of forgiveness with security attachment style of the university students. It has been found that there has been a negative meaningful relation between total forgiveness point and sub-dimensions of forgiveness with fearful attachment. It has been detected that attachment styles of the university students have significantly predicted the levels of forgiveness of the students. There has been significant difference among attachment styles and the point of forgiveness, sub-dimensions of forgiveness in terms of some variables; however, there has been no meaningful difference among attachment styles in terms of other variables in the results of the research.
