Examination of communication skills of university students in terms of various variables: Gümüşhane University Physical Education and Sports High School and Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Faculty of Sports Sciences

This work; The aim of this study was to examine the communication skill levels of the students of the Faculty of Sport Sciences and the School of Physical Education and Sports of two different universities. A total of 539 students, 237 female and 302 male, studying at the School of Physical Education and Sports at Gümüşhane University and at Muğla Sıtkı Koçman Faculty of Sports Sciences in the 2021-2022 academic year participated in the research. Stratified Sampling Method was used in the study. The "Communication Skills Assessment Scale" (CIS) developed by Korkut (1996) and validated and reliable was used in the study. Data collection was carried out online. While the Independent Samples T test was used to compare the scale scores according to the universities they attended, the MANOVA analysis was used to examine the differences according to the university they attended and other demographic variables. Tukey test was used as a post hoc test to examine the differences between the groups in the MANOVA analysis. As a result, it is seen that the communication principles and skills of the students participating in the research, self-expression, active listening and non-verbal communication and total communication levels are high, and their willingness to communicate is above the medium level. In the light of the data obtained, it can be said that the students participating in the study have effective communication skills. It is seen that there is no statistically significant difference between the communication skills scale sub-dimension and the total scores of the students participating in the research in terms of the universities they are studying. In terms of the sub-dimensions examined, the study data show diversity.
