The relationship between parentification and psychological resiliencelevels of university students

The aim of this study is to investigate whether there is a relationship between parentification experiences and psychological resilience levels in university students. In this research, relational survey model was used. A total of 504 students (160 male (31.7%) and 344 female (68.3%) were selected by stratified sampling method among 4104 students studying at Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University Faculty of Education in 2017-2018 academic year. Parentification Inventory (EE), Psychological Resilience Scale (PRS) and Personal Information Form prepared by the researcher were used as data collection instruments. The data obtained from the study were analyzed with Independent Groups t-Test, Variance Analysis, Pearson Correlation Analysis and Simple Linear Regression Analysis. According to the results obtained from the research; While the level of psychological resilience of university students showed significant differences according to age variable; gender, number of siblings, birth order, maternal education status, father education status, perceived socioeconomic income, and most of the living place did not show a significant difference according to the variables of settlement. However, while university students parentification showed significant differences according to age and birth order variable; gender, number of siblings, maternal education status, father education status, perceived socioeconomic income and most of the living place did not show a significant difference according to the variables of settlement. In addition, it was found that approximately 15% of psychological resilience level of parentification among university students was a significant predictor.
