Examination of the relationship between the levels of fear of missing out and social network addiction, attachment styles and emotion regulation skills of university students

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the fear of missing the out in university students in terms of social network addiction, emotion regulation skills and attachment styles. The study group of the research consists of 920 university students. Of the students participating in the study, 707 (76.80) were female and 213 (23.20) were male. In the study designed with a predictive correlational model, the Fear of Missing Out in Social Environments Scale, Social Network Addiction Scale, Three-Dimensional Attachment Styles Scale and Emotion Regulation Skills Scale were used. In the results obtained from this study, it was found that FOMO showed a significant difference according to gender, SNAS and TDAS did not show a significant difference, and ERS scale showed a significant difference according to gender. According to the results of the study, the highest correlation was found between social network addiction (r=.472) and the lowest correlation was found between attachment styles (r=.167). A significant positive relationship (r=.224) was found between SNAS and TDAS. A low level negative correlation was found between the scores obtained from the FOMO and the ERS scale (r=-.203), and a low level negative correlation was found between the scores obtained from the SNAS scale and the ERS scale (r=-.234).
