Trends of personality characteristics of university students on the effect of entrepreneurship: A research at Düzce University

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between personality traits and entrepreneurial orientation of the students study at the university. Population of the study is 1029 female and 836 male totally 1865 bachelors and associate degree continuing formal education students at the University of Düzce in 2011-2012 spring semesters. The purpose of this research is Düzce University license and associate degree students work. The number of formal training license and associate degree students number is 10573. 6950 of these students are studying license and 10573 students are studying associate degree. 3934 student are female and 8267 are male. The sample of this study is consist of 341 female and 359 male totally 700 students that have been chosen by incidentally. To create a questionnaire, both the Personality Scale developed by Bilgin (2011) and the questions obtained from the literature on entrepreneurial orientation were used. In analyzing the data, exploratory factor analysis, correlation analysis, regression analysis and T-test analysis were used. The interpretation of results p <0.05 significance level was adopted. According to the results of the factor analysis, the university students' viipersonality structures consist of 5 types as Neurotic Personalities. These are Compatible Personalities, Extroverted Personalities, Idealist Personalities and Innovative Personalities. Trends in entrepreneurship in university students are grouped under three. These are operational entrepreneurship, intellectual entrepreneurship and behavioral entrepreneurship trends. According to the results of correlation and regression analysis; operational, intellectual and behavioral entrepreneurship of the neurotic personalities is negative. Neurotic personality structure has negative impact on students' operational sense and intellectual trends in entrepreneurship. Operational personality structure with the highest entrepreneurial orientation, idealistic personality. Entrepreneurial orientation with the highest intellectual personality structure, compatible personality. Behavioural personality structure with the highest entrepreneurial orientation of the extrovert personality. Operational entrepreneurial personality structure with the lowest tendency, compatible personality. Intellectual personality structure with the lowest entrepreneurial orientation, extroverted personality. Behavioral personality structure with the lowest entrepreneurial orientation of the innovative personality. According to the difference test results operational entrepreneurial orientation of university students depending on the age, work experience, and family factors. Behavioral entrepreneurial orientation differs only by a factor of age. Intellectual entrepreneurship is liable to change in respect to any factor could not be detected.
