Determining students' intercultural effectiveness level in terms of various factors: A sample on a state university

In this study, it is aimed to determine undergraduate students' intercultural effectiveness level in terms of various factors. Screening model was used in the study conducted throughout quantitative research design. The sample group of the research consists of 300 students studying at Middle East Technical University (METU) in the spring term of the 2017-2018 academic year. In the study, "Intercultural Effectiveness Scale" and "Personal Information Form" were used as data collection tools. The data obtained from the research were analyzed using SPSS 20.0 program. Statistical tests such as arithmetic mean, standard variation, frequency, percentage, t-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and regression were used to analyze the data. According to the research results, intercultural effectiveness of the students is at a satisfactory level. It is seen that intercultural effectiveness levels of the students significantly differed according to grade level, nationality, parents' nationality, previous abroad experience and intercultural friendships. On the other hand, the findings of the study show that there is not any significant effect of the variables such as gender, faculty, parents' educational level, and living place (on-campus or off-campus) on the intercultural effectiveness level. Also, the variables of having a close foreign friend, having experience of living abroad and being an international student were found to be significant predictors of intercultural effectiveness.
