Relationship between problem solving skills with academic self-efficacy of university students

Abstract (EN)
Background and Objectives: It is known that problem solving skills are an important factor in academic efficacy. This research was conducted to determine the relationship between students' problem solving skills and academic self-efficacy levels of Health Services Vocational School students. Material and Method: The universe of this descriptive and relationship-seeking research at Bartın University Health Services Vocational School. The research was completed with 917 students who could be reached by stratified sampling method. Descriptive characteristics form, problem solving skills perception and academic self-efficacy scale were used to collect data. Number, percentage, mean, t test, variance analysis and correlation analysis were used in the evaluation of the data. Results: It was determined that 68.3% of the students were female, 88.2% were between 17-21 years old and 51.6% were first class. It was determined that the students perceived themselves as sufficient about problem solving skills and their academic self-efficacy levels were high. It was found that gender affects some sub-dimensions of problem solving ability and academic self-efficacy scale. Conclusion: As a result of the research, it was determined that as the problem solving skills of the students decreased, their academic self-efficacy levels increased. It was determined that the place where the students spent the last 10 years of their life and the study order before the university started to affect the academic self-efficacy level.Trainings can be organized to increase students' problem solving skills and academic self-efficacy levels.
