Investigating of psychological well-being of university students in terms of social responsibility behavior

The aim of this study is to demonstrate how individual social responsibility behavior is related to the level of psychological well-being of individuals. In addition, it was investigated whether there is a significant difference between the several demographic variables and point of view towards individual social responsibility and level of psychological well-being. The sample of the study consists of 801 undergraduate students studying in Istanbul and Marmara University. "Personal Information Form", "Psychological Well-being Scale" and "Individual Social Responsibility Scale" were applied in this research. SPSS 21.0 was used for data analysis. ANOVA, Scheffe post hoc, pearson correlation and regression analysis techniques were used for the findings of the study. According to the results of the study, it was found that individual social responsibility scores were significant predictors of psychological well-being and sub-dimensions scores. Social responsibility variable explains 12% of total variance in psychological well-being variable. In addition, significant relationships were found between individual social responsibility variable and other variables like gender, economic level of family, participation in social responsibility projects, duration of social responsibility projects, membership status to civil society, desire to participate in the future and level of importance given to social responsibility projects. Significant relationships were found between psychological well-being variable and gender, age, place where people live most, economic status of family, frequency of participation in socio-cultural activities, membership of civil society organisation, voluntary status, willingness to participate in the future, importance given to social responsibility projects.
