An an examination of the relationship between university students' satisfaction of the leisure time activity and school engagement

In this study, the university students' perceptions of leisure time activities have been identified by including some conceptual information about leisure time activities and school engagement. This research investigated how these perceptions affect school engagement of the students. The relationship between leisure time satisfaction and school engagement has been determined and the level of this relationship has been scaled. Analyses of the relationship between leisure time activities and democratic characteristics of school engagement have been carried out. In the study, primarily an investigation about the subject has been made, then Turkish sources have been examined and the translations of foreign sources have been completed. The fundamental aim of this study was to determine the effect of leisure time activity satisfaction on school engagement of university students. The study consists of three main sections for this aim. The first section of the study includes the descriptions, the properties, and the types of the concept of time and leisure time which is based on a review of relevant literature. The second section of the study which is also based on literature review includes the concepts related to school engagement. The third section of the study which constitutes the application part includes the results of the questionnaires which have been administered to university students at Zonguldak Vocational School. The results of data analyses yielded information on the demographics of the students and the leisure time activities they participated in have been determined. In addition, as a result of the analysis of the canonical correlation, it is concluded that the leisure time activity satisfaction affects school engagement.
