Investigation of university students' social support perceptions and factors that prevent the participation of leisure

The aim of this study is to examine university students' perceptions of social support and the factors that prevent leisure participation. The study group of the research, which was carried out in the relational survey model, consists of 582 (321 female, 261 male) students who are university students in Sakarya province and selected by random method. The data were collected with "Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support", "Leisure Constraints Scale-18" and personal information form. Descriptive statistics, independent groups t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and pearson correlation analysis were applied to the collected data. According to the research findings, a significant difference was found in students' social support scores according to income level. In the leisure constraints scores of the students; a significant difference was found according to gender, class variable and income status. As a result, as a result of the relationship analysis between perceived social support levels and leisure participation constraints, a low level positive significant relationship was found between leisure participation constraints and perceived social support levels, family and a special person sub-dimensions and individual psychology sub-dimension. In addition, a low level positive significant relationship was found between the family and friends sub-dimensions and the facility sub-dimension. As a result, leisure participation is negatively affected by the decrease in perceived social support. It is thought that social support perceptions should be high in order for students to spend their free time better. Social activities of students for leisure time should be supported and their self-confidence should be strengthened through social support. Key Words: Leisure Constraints, Student, Social Support
