Abstract (EN)

This study attempts to explain the social media usage of Kırıkkale University students within the framework of usage patterns and satisfaction. A quantitative research method was employed for this study in which data were collected through field research using face-to-face survey technique. The population of the study was determined as students enrolled at Kırıkkale University during the 2022-2023 academic year. A sample of 500 students was selected using the Randomised Sampling Method after which they participated in the "Social Media Usage Habits Attitude Scale" through face-to-face interviews. The University Students' Social Media Usage Habits Attitude Scale, developed by Balcı and Ayhan in 2007, is based on a 5-point Likert scale. Out of 500 participants, 275 of them were female users, while 225 were male users, and 79% of these participants were in the age group of 21 to 24. According to the study, Instagram was found to be the most commonly used social media platform by Kırıkkale University students, with a percentage of 31.9. It was observed that Kırıkkale University students use social media platforms for social escape, leisure time activities, and entertainment motivations, and the usage durations were determined to be more than 5 hours.
