Investigation of tolerance tendencies and aggression levels of university cells in terms of participation in sports (Ardahan University example)

In this research, the aim was to examine the tolerance tendencies and levels of aggression among students studying at Ardahan University. The study population consisted of students studying at Ardahan University. The sample group was formed with the participation of a total of 391 individuals, including 201 males and 190 females. Personal information form, aggression scale, and tolerance tendency scale were used to collect data in the research. SPSS 26.0 software package was used for data analysis. Frequency analysis was conducted to obtain demographic data. After testing the normal distribution of the data using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, it was determined that the data did not follow a normal distribution. Therefore, the Mann-Whitney U and Chi-square tests were used for pairwise comparisons, and the Kruskal-Wallis H test was used for comparisons of more than two groups. A significance level of p<0.05 was accepted. According to the analysis of the obtained data, no significant differences were found in the total scores of participants' tolerance tendencies based on gender, participation in sports, socio-cultural club membership, practicing self-defense sports, age, and class level. When looking at the total scores of aggression levels, no significant differences were found in terms of participation in sports and socio-cultural club membership. The levels of aggression among university students were found to be influenced by gender, practicing self-defense sports, and age. In other words, it was observed that being male, practicing self-defense sports, and being below the age of 20 were associated with aggression compared to other situations. In this context, necessary awareness can be created to prevent university students from exhibiting aggressive attitudes and to foster tolerant individuals, which is crucial for maintaining social order.
