The releationship between unemployment concern and entrepreneurship intention of senior undergraduate students: example of TRA1 region

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to determine levels of entrepreneurial intention and unemployment concern in senior university students and to reveal relationship between subdimensions of unemployment concern such as personal pessimism- lack of self-trust, environmental-social pressure, lack of knowledge-competency, employment difficulties in economy and entrepreneurial intention. In addition to this main purpose, the other purpose is to determine whether entrepreneurial intention and unemployment concern differ according to demographic attributes. In this scope, a survey was carried out on 802 senior students who study in Atatürk University, Erzurum Technical University, Erzincan and Bayburt University which are situated in the zone of TRA1. Data which were obtained through convenience sampling method were analyzed through Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis and correlation tests of SPSS. According to results of analyses; there is a significant, positive and weak relationship between entrepreneurial intention and unemployment concern that is experienced by senior university students. There is a significant, positive weak relationship between entrepreneurial intention and three subdimensions of unemployment concern except personal pessimism, lack of self-trust. According to results of discriminant analyses; levels of entrepreneurial intention of senior university students differ significantly according to demographic factors that is gender, work experience, accommodation of students during education life, having a family member who is engaged with trade. Levels of entrepreneurial intention of senior university students don't differ significantly according to demographic factors that is monthly income of family, settlement of the students family before his or her education, in which rank is he or she with regards to age. Levels of entrepreneurial intention of senior university students differ significantly according to educational attributes that is grade point average while Levels of entrepreneurial intention of senior university students don't differ significantly according to University, department, whether attending to an entrepreneurial course or a class. Levels of unemployment concern don't differ significantly according to demographic factors that is gender and family income. Levels of unemployment concern differ significantly according to educational attributes that is university, department, grade point average. At the final part of the study, Some suggestions were made for both practitioners and next studies by evaluating results of the study.
