Ünye is an urban settlement in the Central Black Sea Region of the Black Sea Region, within the boundaries of Ordu and in the northwestern part of the province. The aim of this study is to evaluate the urban land use of Ünye city center, which is one of the important ports of Ordu, on the Black Sea coastal road in terms of sustainability. In addition, Ünye's addressing urban land use and identifying existing settlement problems, developing solutions for them and thus contributing to the healthy development of the city. The focus of the research, "Can urban functions meet the needs of the city in terms of land use? How should urban functions be planned for sustainable use to meet the needs of the city?" questions. The research was conducted with the help of literature survey, field research, quantitative data analysis method and Geographic Information System. The study area consists of an area of 30,30 km2 within the boundary of 18 urban areas. The boundary of the municipal service area exceeds the boundaries of the urban neighborhood of 18 neighborhoods, but it extends in the east and west along the Black Sea coastline and covers an area of approximately 26 km2. The city of Ünye, which is composed of 18 urban neighborhoods, is the administrative center of 59 village settlements and 85 neighborhoods (urban + rural) according to the Big City Law. It also has a central role in terms of management function for neighboring districts and their settlements. The general land use in and around Ünye is in the east-west direction. The city is bordered by the mountains extending from the north to the Black Sea and from the south to the shore and their ridges. The city of Ünye has a very old and established settlement history. Ünye city in terms of educational function within cultural functions, it is a preferred city for the surrounding settlements. There are 81 schools in Ünye and 1,709 teachers provide education to 24,880 students in these schools. Ünye city in terms of health function; It has a large hinterland in terms of impact area for rural areas, one with two state hospitals and 10 family health centers. Retail trade accounts for 51% of Ünye's trading function. It is an important location in terms of highway, maritime and airway transportation functions. The direction of the settlement in the city of Ünye is to the west. However, for a sustainable use, Atatürk, Gölevi, Göbü and Sahilköy neighborhoods located in the west of the city have a limited area in terms of residential areas depending on both geological and geomorphological elements. Yüceler, Güzelyalı, Eskikızılcakese and Keş neighborhoods to the east of Ünye city provide more suitable environmental conditions in terms of the settlement area for sustainable use. The residential development areas of these spaces are also suitable for natural and human conditions.
