Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, in which we examine the rice production in the Balkans from the 15th century to the 17th century, paddy and many issues and concepts related to paddy farming are discussed under different headings and enriched with the information obtained from different sources. During our research, no official record of the production of paddy rice was found in the Balkan geography in the 14th century. For this reason, the date limitation of our study starts with the 15th century, when the first census data of the Balkans are available, and covers the period until the end of the 17th century, when the Ottoman Empire reached its widest borders in Central and Eastern Europe and the resources on paddy production were diversified. We believe that this study will cover all phases of paddy production, which is an important area of agricultural life in the Ottoman Empire, and will fill an important gap in this field. It is thought that how paddy was cultivated in the past, its main problems and emerging problems will shed light on many agricultural issues today and will be beneficial to researchers and readers.
