Medical malpractices in urology

It is a fact that people ignore their health due to technological advances, adverse socio-economic conditions, and the intense pace of work of our era we have been living. The right to a healthy life that people are born with, is most fundamental right as well as a physician-patient relationship has an important place in in the process of protection of health. Malpractice which is one of the basic concepts of health law, counted as one of the determinants of health in this physician-patient relationship. Healthcare workers are under big responsibility due to malpractice lawsuits and they may be faced with right or wrong judgment legally, economically, and psychologically as a negative result of a medical intervention. Malpractice especially occurring in the field of urology in Turkey is at a remarkable level and malpractice have usually occured by the reasons of circumcising faults, misinformation, misdiagnosis, improper drug use, carelessness and lack of specialists during medical interventions. Although right to compensation forms as the most natural rigts for patients and their relatives in the cases of injuries or fatalities, it should be determined precisely whether the malpractice is caused by physician faults. The topic of this study has chosen as malpractice in urology, compared to other health issues, due to lack of data in literature, and malpractice cases and their reflections to the judiciary have been addressed by the method of literature review according to the recent data. Outcomes of legal process for urological malpractice has been mentioned by examining several cases and it is intended to determine the most common sources of malpractice occurring in urology.
