An ecofeminist analysis of Ursula K. Le Guin's The Word for World is Forest and Latife Tekin's Muinar

This thesis analyses Ursula K. Le Guin's The Word For World Is Forest and Latife Tekin's Muinar through ecofeminist theories. The Word for World is Forest (WWF) WWF will analyse its main characters, Captain Davidson, Raj Lyubov, and Selver, through the lens of ecofeminist theory. Captain Don Davidson is the representation of exploitative Westernized mindset, whereas Raj Lyubov represents the in-between state, neither exploiter nor exploited. Selver is the representation of the exploited, indigenous societies. The book discusses the racial and gender estrangement, and the fear it causes to minor and marginalized groups, but also it discusses symbiotic relationship the society has with the nature and how crucial the nature is to the society's survival. Despite its complex and stream of consciousness-like structure, Latife Tekin's Muinar is an ecologically conscious book that conveys significant ecological ideas. By highlighting the interconnectedness between the non-human and human world, Tekin promotes eco-spirituality, and ecologically aware thinking through the character, Muinar, as a way to counterbalance damaging anthropocentric thinking. Tekin incorporates a perceptive critique of capitalism exploitation, commercialization, and consumption throughout her book. At first glance, Ursula K. Le Guin's "The Word of the World is Forest" and Latife Tekin's "Muinar" seem different in terms of theme and literary style.
