Özet (EN)
Özgüner Atak, Ebru, User - Place Interaction in Ground - Independent Spaces: A Case of Caravan FromTurkey, Başkent University, Institute of Social Sciences, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design PhD Program, 2024. This thesis aims to investigate the user-place interaction in ground-independent spaces, with a specific focus on caravans. The study seeks to understand the thoughts, experiences, and preferences of individuals living in caravans, as well as their relationship with the space and the furniture within it. By exploring the semantic, physical, and psychosocial dimensions of this user-place interaction, the research aims to identify the factors that contribute to a sense of freedom and spatial belonging in caravans. Housing is not merely a physical structure but also a social existence that provides shelter and facilitates the establishment and maintenance of one's life. Therefore, it is crucial to examine the user-place interaction in caravans to gain insights into the design elements that foster a positive living experience in these spaces. The study will employ qualitative research methods, including interviews and observations, to gather data from individuals living in caravans. These data will be analyzed using thematic analysis to identify common themes and patterns related to the user-place interaction. The findings will contribute to the existing literature on housing and design, providing insights into the unique challenges and opportunities presented by ground-independent living spaces. The research aims to provide practical recommendations for designers and architects working on caravan designs, as well as insights for individuals considering or currently living in caravans. By understanding the user-place interaction in caravans, it is possible to create living spaces that not only meet the functional needs of the residents but also enhance their overall well-being and sense of belonging. In conclusion, this thesis seeks to explore the user-place interaction in ground-independent spaces, specifically focusing on caravans. By examining the thoughts, experiences, and preferences of individuals living in caravans, as well as their relationship with the space and furniture, the study aims to identify the factors that contribute to a sense of freedom and v spatial belonging. The findings will provide valuable insights for designers, architects, and individuals living in caravans, ultimately contributing to the development of more inclusive and user-centered designs for ground-independent living spaces.
