The effect of the music that patient listens during the endoscopy of the upper gastrointestinal system, to the patient?s pulse, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, patient?s satisfaction and success of the procedure

Cemil SAVAŞJune 2005, 99 papersABSTRACTThe Study was performed as a randomized controlled experiment among the patientswho has been referred to the Endoscopy unit of Gaziantep University, Şahinbey Research andIntervention Hospital for endoscopy of the upper gastrointestinal system the sample wascomprised of 100 experimental, 100 controll that have applied 200 patients to the Endoscopyunit between February 2005-April 2005. As data collection tools, questionnaire prepared bythe author that includes socio-demographic characteristics of the paients; form on whichpulse, blood pressure, oxygen saturation values recorded; form that includes patient?ssatisfaction statements; Visual Analog Scale in order to evaluate satisfaction and form whichwas filled by the doctor and includes success statements and Visual Analog Scale, to evaluatethe success of the procedure were used. Ki-Square, One-Sample T test, Student T test, andIndependent Samples T test, Paired Sample T test, and One-way Anova were used in theanalysis of the input Tukey HSD was used in advanced analysis. According to the results ofthe study, it was determined that the music had no effect on pulse, blood pressure, oxygensaturation values of the patients in the experimental group. But it had statistically meaningfuleffects to all parameters which include patient?s satisfaction in the experimental group(p<0,05). As a result of the study the author suggested that music should be listened to thepatient during the endoscopy because of the positive effects of music to the patient?ssatisfaction.Key words: Upper gastrointestinal system endoscopy, music, pulse, blood pressure,oxygen saturation, patient satisfaction, success of the procedure.
