Evaluation of effects of the upper gastrointestinal system endoscope to the voice

Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy is an effective method used to determine many diseases. The aim of this study is to determine the changes of the upper gastrointestinal endoscopy procedure on the voice. In this study, acoustic sound analysis was performed by using PRAAT program before and after upper gastrointestinal system endoscopy procedure on 50 individuals between the ages of 18-65 and the results were determined. Age, weight, height, body mass index (BMI) and frequency distribution were examined by Shapiro-Wilk test. Categorical variables such as gender are shown with n (%). Frequency values before and after endoscopy were compared with paired t test or Wilcoxon test. Gender, education level, etc. In the case of assumptions for comparison, two-way mixed ANOVA, otherwise non-parametric F1-LD-F1 design for longitudinal data was used. Statistical significance was determined as p <0.05. When the data were analyzed in general, a significant decrease was observed in the total frequency level of flat vowels after endoscopy (Z = 3.630, p <0.001). Similar results were obtained for frequency levels of other vowels (p <0.05). No significant change was observed in the frequencies of round voices (p> 0.05). It was determined that the flat total frequency before endoscopy was lower in patients undergoing sedated endoscopy than those without sedation (p = 0.034). It was determined that upper gastrointestinal system endoscopy procedure had a change on sound. In the light of the data obtained, upper gastrointestinal endoscopy procedure; it has different effects on the voice system due to the traumatic effect on individuals, the habits of individuals and systemic diseases.
