Abstract (EN)

The first people to believe and accept the invitation of the Prophet Muhammad, who started the invitation to Islam after the mission of prophethood was communicated to him; especially his wife Hatice, and some of his closest relatives and acquaintances. These people, who stood by the Prophet Muhammad during his prophethood and endured all kinds of troubles with him, were always welcomed with respect and love by the Muslim community and were mentioned in the sources of Islamic History, finding their deserved place. One of these people mentioned in Islamic History sources is Utba b. Ghazvan, who belongs to the Mâzin tribe. Utba b. Ghazvan is a distinguished personality who followed the call of the Prophet Muhammad, who started the invitation to Islam, and became the seventh of the first believers in him, and who participated in many gazves and seriyyas together with the Prophet Muhammad and gained his appreciation. Again, after the death of the Prophet Muhammad, he played an active role in the Islamization of Iraq by taking an active part in the conquests of Iraq, especially during the period of Caliph Omar, and founded the city of Basra, which would become a school in terms of Islamic sciences, and served as governor there for about six months. In this study, the life and activities of Utba b. Ghazvan, who has a very important place in Islamic History research, will be discussed. KEYWORDS: History of Islam, Rashid Caliphs, Basra, Utba b.
