Aim: It is to retrospectively examine the results of pregnancy after hysteroscopic septum incision in patients identified uterine septum and applied with primary infertility or have a history of recurrent pregnancy loss.Material and Method: 76 patients were included in the study, who admitted to Cukurova University Medical Faculty Obstetrics and Gynecology Infertility clinic in between January 2002-December 2007 because of primary infertility or recurrent pregnancy loss, and identified uterine septum in HSG. 27 patients were in the group of primary infertility, 49 patients were in a history of recurrent pregnancy loss group. Under general anesthesia, all patients underwent laparoscopy guided hysteroscopic septum incision. Postoperative follow-up period was 18 ± 8 months. Both groups were compared in terms of the total number of pregnancies before and after the operation, total abortion, preterm, term birth rate, cumulative live birth rate, birth shape, control HSG?s and being reoperated.Results: 55 (72.4%) had a complete, 21 (27.6%) patients had incomplete septum. 55 of 76 patients (72.4%) were conceived after surgery, the total number of pregnancies was 79. That 14 (17.8%) were identified as spontaneous abortions, 12 (15.2%) as preterm delivery, 53 (67%) of them as full-term birth. The cumulative live birth rate which is 3.4% before operation has increased to 70% after the operation.Conclusion: Hysteroscopic incision of uterine septum is easily performed and effective method. A history of success of the operation, especially in patients with recurrent pregnancy loss is greater than in patients with primary infertility.Keywords: Mullerian anomalies, uterine septum, hysteroscopic metroplasty
