The analysis of Uyanış Journal articles in accordance with education and current events

Periodicals are considered as mirrors that functions as a live communication medium of the term they were published.Uyanış Journal, published between 1963 and 1976, is also important in enlightening today's educational problems. While the professional knowledge and skills were assignedamong the teachers in the Uyanış Journal issued by the Izmir Institute of Education, educational problems were defined, and solutions were offered. Some of these problems still exist today. In the content of the Uyanış Journal, critical issues such as learning by doing and living, the importance of mother tongue education, gaining the habit of reading books and avoiding educational routes based just on memorizationof contentsare some of the subjects held. The aim of this research is to examine the Uyanış Journal in terms of education by revealing the developments and problems related to the education in the Uyanış Journal published between 1963-1976. In the journal, developments related to education, authors' opinions about education problems, problems of education institutions, understanding of Atatürkism, Cyprus Problem, the27 May 1960Coup, the reflection of the student events/protests of the period to the journal publications were examined. Critics of Ottoman history and the viewpoints of the authors were evaluated in the journal. Educational and teaching problems were reached in the journal. All Uyanış journals, a total of 134 issues, were reached from the Istanbul Beyazit State Library. The aim of the study is to examine Uyanış Journal in terms of education and to shed light on today's educational problems. In the first part of the thesis, the problem is determined and in the second part the conceptual framework related to the journal is prepared. In the third section, the method to be used in the research is expressed.In the fourth chapter,the Uyanış Journal in terms of education problems, in terms of discussions about Kemalism,in terms of problems of educational institutions, reflection of current events in the journal, approaches tothe Ottoman history, view of the 27 May 1960Coup, reflection of Cyprus issuein light of national sensitivity, the reflection of the student events/protestof the period in the journal was evaluated. In the fifth chapter, there are conclusions and recommendations. In addition, the index of the journal has been listed.
