Abstract (EN)
Aim: Urinary tract infections are among the frequently encountered infections both in our country and around the world. Escherichia coli is reported to be 75-90% encountered agent microorganism in these infections. Because of the use of ampirical antimicrobial agents for the therapy of urinary tract infections the resistance pattern of Eschrerichia coli tends to change in time. In this study, the resistance patterns of Escherichia coli isolated from the urinary specimens at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Healthcare Practice and Research Center Laboratory of Microbiology. Material and methods: The resistance patterns of Escherichia coli isolated from the urinary specimens were evaluated at the Laboratory of Microbiology between 01 June 2014-31 May 2017. Results: During the study period 5182 of the urinary specimens revealed microorganism growth following culture. Of these organisms 2804 (54.1%) were defined as Escherichia coli. In these isolates fluoroquinolone resistance was found to have a slight and significant rising trend. In all age groups resistance rates were high for betalactam agents, flouruqinolones and trimethoprim-sulphometoxasole. The resistance rates were found to be low for phosphomycin, nitrofurantoin, aminoglicosides and carbapenems. Conclusion: Nitrofurantoin and phosphomycin were still found to be highly effective in ampirical treatment of uncomplicated lower urinary tract infections Key words: Escherichia coli, antimicrobial resistance tests, urinary tract infections, extended spectrum betalactamase
