The education of refugee children in Turkey in the context of applications and issues: The sample of Kırşehir and Nevşehir

The present study has been carried out in order to determine expectations and suggestions related with topic for refugee children in our country. Research data that was carried out in phenomenology model from qualitative research methods were obtained from 28 teachers and 9 school administrators with 27 refugee students in these schools studying in secondary schools in 2014-2015 academic year in Kırşehir and Nevşehir province. The research data were acquired via semi-structured interview forms prepared for teachers, students and school administrators. Within this framework, Teacher Interview Form on the Education of Refugee Children in Turkey in the Context of Applications and Issues, Student Interview Form on the Education of Refugee Children in Turkey in the Context of Applications and Issues, School Administrators İnterview Form on the Education of Refugee Children in Turkey in the Context of Applications and Issues were developed by researcher. The collected data were examined and interpreted via descriptive analysis. Following the research; it was determined that the school age refugee children recorded in our country benefit from the right of education but that there are important issues in the education process. In this context, language, race and religious groupings depending on the differences, cultural adjustment, access to schools, families' disinterest, lack of motivation, lack of interest to lessons, being away from home and lack of Turkish language are the most obvious issues of failure. Deficiencies in teacher training for refugees, on the other hand, the absence of a training policy and programs have been identified as the most important issues.
