Uzaktan iş birliği yoluyla kültürlerarası iletişim yetisini geliştirme

Culture and language have always been two concepts that influence each other. In foreign language learning, culture should be integrated into the process as it is intertwined with language. During communication in a foreign language, intercultural communicative competence is important for the continuity of interaction. In this context, it is essential to involve real-life situations and interaction with different cultures in the process. Recent technological developments have abolished borders and facilitated intercultural interaction. To this end, this study aims to develop intercultural communicative competence through telecollaboration. It is believed that the best way to develop intercultural communication is to have students communicate with people from different cultural backgrounds. When the literature was reviewed, it was observed that no experimental study had been conducted on this subject for the secondary school age group. Therefore, a 9-week program was developed. In this program, Turkish participants between the ages of 10-13 had online meetings with Polish students. During these meetings, participants completed weekly tasks that contained intercultural communicative elements. Before and after the program, a scale was administered to the participants, and a follow-up interview was conducted with the participants after the program. The results showed that the program had a statistically positive effect on the participants, and the survey results also provided evidence to support the statistical data. In this context, the usefulness of telecollaboration in developing intercultural communicative competence has been revealed.
