Researching the place and importance of physical education and sports lesson in the process of distance education: Bitlis province, as an example

The aim of this research is to determine how much physical education and sports lessons have been given over the EBA online lesson in the distance education process since March 23, 2020, when distance education started due to the pandemic, in the online lesson programs of the schools in the 2020-2021 academic year, on the basis of Bitlis province. It was aimed to create awareness on this subject by emphasizing the importance of physical education and sports lessons in line with the results and making a situation assessment compared to the other lessons. The focus of the research with the use of convenience sampling method consists of 17 secondary education institutions, affiliated to the Ministry of National Education, located in the central district of Bitlis province. The sample group of the study consists of 8 secondary education institutions that were determined randomly. The data in this research were obtained from the EBA student-based reports section of the website called "www.eba.gov.tr" within the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Turkey. Pictures of the relevant documents and screenshots were taken and transferred to the computer and necessary analysis studies were carried out. In this study, document analysis, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used to determine the situation. As a result of the research, it is seen that the number of online lessons assigned to physical education and sports classes is insufficient, and the average of EBA online class participation on the basis of schools and classes is generally at a very low level. It is seen that physical education and sports lessons are not among the most assigned courses on the school basis and the share given to physical education and sports lessons in the distance education process is low and insufficient.
