Usability of educational computer games in distance learning

Abstract (EN)

This is a qualitative case study aiming to determine the views of experts from educational computer games on usability of educational computer games in distance learning environments. This research utilizes Digital Game Based Learning Theory and XXI. Century Skills Approach. A theoretical matrix was developed based on the principles of Digital Game Based Learning Approach and XXI. Century Skills Approach. This matrix helped the researcher to generate and develop 11 open-ended questions for a semi-structured interview survey to find out the expert views. These semi-structured interview surveys were conducted with four experts in total, two experts from Turkey and two experts from abroad. This survey was send to two experts from Turkey and two experts from abroad through e-mail. According to the research results, 49 main themes on usability of educational computer games in distance learning environments were found. The expert views show that educational computer games can be used in distance learning environments and educational computer games can useful when integrated with distance learning environments. In this context, results have highlighted the features that should be considered when performing applications.
